About Us
 SELCO Incubation Lab is the research and incubation arm of SELCO. The lab was setup in April 2009 to develop new clean and sustainable technologies for the rural poor other than lighting. The lab is hosted inside the premises of SDM Institute of Technology, Ujire, Karnataka. The rural setting gives the lab access to local customers, instant feedback, and visibility into available resources and constraints.
Vision and Mission
• To develop affordable technological innovations and next-generation improvements in products those enhance livelihood or quality of life of low-income rural customers.
• To provide performance testing and consumer research services to third parties who have developed products for the rural poor but lack the means, networks, or field presence for effective dissemination.
• To incubate entrepreneurs who are technologically inclined and are interested in creating small enterprises for their innovations, independently owned but with guidance from SELCO’s lab.
• To evaluate new technologies and products from 3rd parties, select the most promising ones and build a solution around them that suits SELCO's target market, and eventually feeds into SELCO Operations.
• To build up a technology ecosystem for SELCO that includes renewable energy companies, manufacturers of energy efficient products that can be powered by renewable energy, design houses, fabrication houses, universities, NGO's, government bodies, funding agencies, etc.
